Mexico Cup of Excellence Winner, 12th Place, Francisco Javier Montiel Valencia

This is such an amazing coffee, and we’re delighted to share it with you.  It is one of the winners of the Mexican Cup of Excellence, of which the top 22 are then graded for auction, and this came in 12th.

This is grown by Francisco Javier Montiel Valencia and his family, in the state of Veracruz in southern Mexico.  They take meticulous care with their beans, as you would expect, even painting their fingernails red at harvest to make it easy to spot the correct color of the ripe cherries.  They also float the coffee before processing to sort out any beans not the right density.

It is fully washed, and in the cup it begins with a floral nose, then you get the taste of thick buttery nuts, and it finishes with a lingering acidity of green grapes or melons.
