This Costa Rican bean is a blend grown by seven producers: Henry Méndez Arce, Carlos Haug, Alcides Camacho, Fernando París, Xenia Sanchez, Guillermo Chacón, and Juan José Araya. They work with the Coopronaranjo, in central Costa Rica, to the west of the capital of San Jose.
According to our broker, Coopronaranjo “has ecologically designed instruments to handle every aspect of the post-harvest processing and it all runs on hydropower. But it’s not just mill equipment that makes a big impression. This cooperative also has an organic fertilizer production plant that uses vermiculture to convert coffee pulp back into low cost organic fertilizer.”
The result is a blend from small producers that have taken great care with their beans, and it shows in the cup. This is a light roast, with a wonderful aroma. It has a light acidity and tastes of walnuts and apricots, with a citrus finish.
