Burundi is a tiny landlocked African country, bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the the west. It is not well known in the world of coffee, and we’re excited to bring you this offering.
This coffee comes from family farms in the northern part of Burundi, and this is a beautiful offering from the Mbirizi washing station of the Coffee Processing Company (CPC), owned by Salum Ramadhan. He was born and raised in Kayanza Province, and operates four washing stations there. He is committed to his community, and pays well above the government minimum.
It is fully washed, with careful processing, and in the cup shows bright grapefruit tones, with a softer melon finish. It’s sweet like sugar cane, and has a lovely acidity.
