This micro-lot Ecuadorian coffee comes from the far southeast of the country, not far from the border with Peru. This coffee is grown at over 5000 feet, by Camilo Gaona. Sr. Gaona is one of three brothers, who left his home 29 years ago to escape drought conditions, and walked for weeks to Nuevos Horizontes to find land to establish his farm.
The region is mountainous, and getting the coffee to market is a challenge. We were able to purchase this coffee from Capamaco Trading, an “exporting company of coffee . . . that was born as a response to the need of coffee producers in the south of Ecuador to access special markets that recognize the quality of their coffee.”
We agree that this is special coffee. In the cup it has beautiful citrus flavors, along with notes of sweet honeydew and caramel.
