This is a beautiful Organic Ethiopian bean, from the Hambela Estate in south-central Ethiopia. Hambela is a third generation family farm, now run by Aman Adinew. He is committed to the local community, and has helped establish healthcare for employees and sponsored a local elementary school.
Hambela Estate is also committed to quality, and their business, METAD, ” has the first and only private state-of-the-art SCAA certified coffee quality control lab on the African continent used to train both domestic and international coffee professionals”–according to this profile sheet.
This coffee comes from indigenous heirloom cultivars, and it is wet-processed, or washed. In the cup, this is a sweet brew, with light citrus tones and a honey and stone fruit finish. Delicious.
