High-Grown Mexican Altura
This morning I was sipping my coffee and getting ready for the day when the sun peeked over the ridge out my window. I exclaimed out loud as the rays hit me, even though only the cat heard. Sunshine? What is that? If you live in northern California, you know what I mean. We’ve had so much rain in the last week that it seemed like the sky might always be grey. And that the soundtrack of our days might always be a solid pounding thrum of nonstop water. But there was an end after all–at least until next week.
Joking aside, I know there are many of you dealing with serious issues from all the rain. There has been flooding, sinkholes, power outages, trees down, landslides and more. We drove around last weekend, when it was all beginning, and checked out our local streams, creeks and rivers. You can find those pictures on our Facebook page here. Our hearts go out to those who were affected locally. We feel very grateful that our business, our employees, and our family are all safe.
This week we have our High-Grown Mexican Altura coffee for you. These beans are grown by small farmers, most with less than ten acres, in the mountains of Chiapas and Oaxaca. This is volcanic territory, and coffee loves rocky acidic soil. It is a high grown coffee, which is important because at higher elevations the beans are denser, and the yields are lower, which leads to higher quality coffee.
In the cup this coffee has nutty flavors, and a lingering finish of dark chocolate. It has a nice dry acidity and it’s a smooth way to start your day. I hear that we have another atmospheric river headed our way next week, so this would be a great cup to keep you going. I know that I’m going to take some home.
You can try a cup of this Mexican on us this week with the code wild rivers*. I hope that you all enjoy the next few days of dry weather. I am planning on getting outside this weekend while the sun shines. If you’re looking for something to do, the Wild and Scenic film festival is going on in Grass Valley and Nevada City through Sunday. Enjoy your three day weekend, and drink good coffee. Cheers!
