High-Grown Mexican Altura
Happy May Day to you! Do any of you celebrate the first of May? I have childhood recollections of filling baskets with flowers and taking them to the neighbor’s houses, but I don’t think that my children have ever heard of it. Although we had rain just a week ago, it’s hard to remember through the perfect heat of the last few days. We’ve celebrated with outdoor meals every night.
On Wednesday this week I accompanied my daughter’s second grade to the state capitol in Sacramento. I think that it was by far the fanciest building any of them had seen. They were especially impressed with the architecture of the rotunda and intrigued that the assembly chamber is green and the senate is red. The chandeliers and gilding were noted with awe. It was fun to see it through their eyes.
Moving on to the coffee side of things, we’ve been working around the store again. The capitol may look approximately how it did when it was completed in 1874, but we keep updating. This week we added a half wall around the roaster, and moved the coffeemakers to another wall. Come on in and tell us what you think.
While you’re here, you can try a cup of our high-grown Mexican Altura. Use the code updates galore* this week for your free sample. This coffee comes from the south of Mexico, where the mountain ranges provide the right soil for coffee to flourish. The term high-grown is significant since beans from higher elevations tend to mature more slowly, be denser, and have less quantity but better quality.
This Mexican is roasted light and it’s smooth and sweet and easy to drink. It has a medium body and a nutty finish. I’ll be drinking it this week–maybe even out in the garden if this beautiful weather continues. Here’s wishing you a good week, full of the wonder of childhood, no matter your age. Cheers!
