Chuck photo headerOrganic Sumatra Takengon

Last weekend we had a great time celebrating Chuck.  All four of his sons were in town, and many of his grandchildren–even one great grandchild made it.  Family came from around the state, and from across the country to honor Chuck.  The pictures in the header spanned his eighty years: what a life he has led.  It was a wonderful way to spend the fourth of July.

In our family the baseball season ended this week. We all enjoyed attending Jack’s games, but it was certainly relaxing last night not to drive to Newcastle. The Nevada City All Stars team was the Area 2 Champions, but lost to Tri Cities on Tuesday night for the District 11 Championship. They all played well, and Jack got to pitch his first year in All Stars, so he had a good experience despite the loss.

This week we’re traveling back across the world from Malawi to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. On an eastward route the two are over 4000 miles apart, but they are only separated by the Indian Ocean. This coffee comes from the far north of Sumatra, near the town of Takengon in the Aceh region. This is the Gayo Highlands.

Our Organic Sumatra Takengon comes from the family run Jagong Mill, and the coffee comes from farms in the surrounding area, owned by Mr. Irham Junus and his son Andi and his daughter Ina. With so much control from tree to bag, the quality of these beans is superb.

In the cup this is a sweet coffee with a hearty body. It tastes of honey and caramelized sugar and it is a pleasure to start your day. You can come try a cup on us with the code all star* this week. Have a great weekend. Tomorrow is a day to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Skolak–yes, that’s Becky’s new name. There will be pictures to come. Enjoy!
