Brazil Alta Mogiana
I had such a lovely week being back on a school routine. I was guilty of sleeping later during the break, so the 5:45 alarm clock was a bit of an adjustment. Once I got a steaming mug of coffee in my hand, though, it was nice to be up in the quiet before the kids awoke. I treasure those moments.
This weekend we’ll be brewing up coffee for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival. For the schedule of events, check here. We’ll be open until 7 pm tonight and tomorrow night, if you need a drink before the films start in Grass Valley. Tomorrow there is an art and wine stroll around both Nevada City and Grass Valley as a part of the festival, and the downtown Grass Valley tasting rooms are offering half off tastings.

Brazilian forms the base of our Espresso blend, but this Alta Mogiana stands alone. It’s grown by a cooperative of farmers in the south east of Brazil. This is an area of Brazil that grows higher quality arabica beans, as opposed to the robusta beans which are further north.
Since Brazil is the world’s largest producer of coffee, there are large variations in quality among their beans. This Alta Mogiana Brazil was given the highest cupping score by the state: FC, SS, meaning fine cup and strictly soft. We found it to be a crowd pleasing coffee with smooth, nutty and chocolate flavors. It has a medium acidity and it is easy to drink.
